Midterms 2022 – latest: New poll puts Fetterman just one point ahead of Oz in Pennsylvania Senate race

Fetterman mocks Oz’s abortion remarks as he acknowledges ‘missing words’ in debate

A new poll in Pennsylvania has struck fear into Democratic hearts with the news that Senate candidate John Fetterman apparently holds just a point lead over Republican Mehmet Oz – this as the party advances in other States shrink or stubbornly fail to grow.

While the chances of Democrats holding the House still seem slim, control of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance. Among the states where the parties effectively remain tied are the race for a GOP-held seat in Ohio and a Democratic defense in Nevada, although incumbent Senators Mark Kelly of Arizona and Raphael Warnock appear to maintain a slight lead.

Joe Biden traveled to Florida yesterday to campaign with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist, who is fighting an uphill battle to unseat Governor Ron DeSantis. Meanwhile, former President Barack Obama continues his late-night tour of crucial states as Democrats try to boost voter enthusiasm and turnout among their base.

He will campaign with Mr. Biden this weekend.

Op-ed: The five Senate seats most likely to flip midterm

Eric Garcia, The IndependentThe Washington bureau chief writes:

We are officially seven days away from Election Day! Celebrate or panic as you wish.

Much has changed since our previous ranking of Senate seats most likely to swing, with some candidates gaining a lead while other races have tightened. One contest that is no longer on the list is North Carolina, largely thanks to an onslaught of ads from Republican groups that helped Rep. Ted Budd edge out Cheri Beasley, and to which Democrats have failed to respond in kind. .

Meanwhile, things are heating up in Arizona, which is back in our rankings. And while Rep. Tim Ryan put up an impressive fight against Republican J.D. Vance in their debates, it appears Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s onslaught of cash has given the struggling Republican nominee the steam he needed to retreat.

With that, here’s your final ranking of the top five Senate seats most likely to flip. Shout out to us accordingly.

New poll: Fetterman and Oz one point apart

An end-of-day poll from Muhlenberg College and morning call has disturbing news for Democrats: After enjoying a surprisingly large lead this summer, Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman is effectively tied with his opponent Mehmet Oz, leading him by just a single point. And, worryingly, of the 3% of respondents who said they didn’t know who to vote for, 22% leaned towards Dr. Oz while only 7% leaned towards Mr. Fetterman.
