The shooter is still at large, police said. Officers and K9 units roam the area.

“Tonight’s shooting at MTSU is a tragedy. We mourn with the family who lost a loved one and the injured victim,” Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Dan Goodwin.

“Police found two people with gunshot wounds near the tennis courts. The shooting occurred as individuals were leaving graduation. We ask for the public’s patience. We are at ground zero in this investigation.

Riverdale High School will be closed tomorrow as a precaution and guidance will be provided to students when school resumes Friday, Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans said.

According to witnesses, between six and eight shots were heard.
