Michigan parents have pushed back after the state’s Democratic Party criticized parents who want to play a role in what public education teaches their children.

“It’s wrong to take the power away from parents,” Diane told Fox News. “They are their children, not the government’s children, they are our children.”

The Michigan Democratic Party posted on its official Facebook page: “I don’t know where this ‘parents-should-control-what-is-taught-in-schools-because-they-are-coming from. -are-our-children’ comes, but parents have the option of sending their children to a select private school at their own expense if that is what they desire.”

“The purpose of public education in public schools is not to teach children only what parents want them to learn,” the message continued. “It’s to teach them what society needs them to know. The client of public school is not the parent, but the whole community, the public.”

“I think often bad things happen in schools and bad things are taught because everyone has a different opinion,” she continued. “But I am responsible for my children and I want to instill my values ​​in them. I don’t think it depends on others.”

Michelle said: “When they are more engaged, children learn more. Any parent who walks children to school becomes more focused. It starts at home.”

The Facebook post was deleted on Monday morning. The Michigan Democratic Party apologized and said the original post did not ‘reflect’ its views and ‘should not be misinterpreted’ as a ‘statement of support’ from officials or candidates democrats.
