Oxford school shooting: Ethan Crumbley appears in court accused of “methodically” killing classmates
Investigators have uncovered particularly “disturbing” evidence against Ethan Crumbley, the 15-year-old accused of carrying out a mass shooting at his Michigan high school.
Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald cited the evidence – which she said could not yet be released to the public – at a press conference on Wednesday where she announced Mr Crumbley was indicted as a adult of one count of terrorism, four counts of first degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to kill and 12 counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Ms McDonald said the charges stemmed from “undeniable” evidence that Tuesday’s attack on Oxford secondary school was premeditated. The suspect reportedly planned the shooting in his diary and shared his intentions in two videos the night before.
The charges were announced after the shooting death toll rose to four as a 17-year-old boy, Justin Shilling, succumbed to his injuries. Three other students – Tate Myre, 16, Hana St Juliana, 14, and Madisyn Baldwin, 17 – were confirmed dead on Tuesday and seven other victims were injured.
Meanwhile, it emerged that Mr Crumbley’s parents were at school just hours before the shooting for a face-to-face meeting with school officials about their son’s behavior.
The teenager reportedly posted a spooky countdown on Instagram hours before the shooting, writing: “Now I become death – destroyer of worlds – at Oxford tomorrow.”
Decision on charges against parents expected in 24 hours
Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald said Thursday she expects a decision on whether to charge Ethan Crumbley’s parents will be made within the next 24 hours.
Mr Crumbley allegedly carried out Tuesday’s Oxford high school shootout with a handgun his father bought four days before Black Friday. Earlier Thursday, Ms McDonald said the weapon appeared to have been “freely available” to the suspect.
Addressing the possibility of charges against the parents on Wednesday, Ms McDonald said: “We know that owning a gun means securing it properly and locking it and keeping the ammunition separate and not allowing access to other people, especially minors. We know that and we must hold accountable those who do not. “

Democrats renew efforts for gun reform
Democrats on Wednesday vowed to pass new gun control legislation and try to revive bills stalled in the Republican-led Michigan legislature following a mass shooting which left four dead and others seriously injured.
But GOP leaders, who have long opposed such measures and favored looser restrictions, did not immediately engage in policy changes.
“There is nothing we can do,” Senator Rosemary Bayer, a Democrat whose district includes Oxford High School, told reporters after senators held a minute’s silence for the dead. ” We need to act. Right now, today, I think I really, really want to focus on the families and… just trying to help them know that we are there for them, that we are supporting them in any way we can.
Earlier this year, mass shootings in Georgia and Colorado reignited calls from gun control advocates for tighter restrictions on the purchase of firearms and ammunition. But with Democrats controlling the federal government, gun rights advocates have persuaded Republican-led legislatures to go the other way and make it easier to get and carry guns.
Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who opposes easing restrictions, has said gun violence is a public health crisis. She called for unspecified “actions” beyond “thoughts and prayers” but did not give details. She has already supported a measure that would allow judges to order the seizure of firearms from people who pose a significant risk to themselves or to others.
