Michael Owen explains why Marcus Rashford is NOT the answer to Man Utd striker problem despite searing goalscoring run

MICHAEL OWEN insists Marcus Rashford is not the answer to Manchester United’s goalscoring problems.
Rashford has been rejuvenated under United manager Erik ten Hag as he has five goals and three assists in 15 Premier League appearances this season.

The England international was hugely influential in Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford as he scored the opening goal and set up Anthony Martial shortly after.
But Owen insists the striker cannot be the Red Devils’ ‘main goalscorer’ as he cannot play in the middle like Wayne Rooney or Robin van Persie have.
The former United star, however, is confident he can still deliver from his favorite left wing.
Owen told Amazon Prime: “He’s not your main scorer.
“If you’re at Manchester United, Rashford won’t score you 30 goals a season like a Wayne Rooney, like a Robin van Persie.
“[But] He will contribute double digits each year from this left position.
“If you think Manchester United will play him in the middle and score 30 goals and be your main man, I would question it.”
United have found themselves in need of a new striker after Cristiano Ronaldo’s dramatic exit with Martial, their only recognized No.9.

Ten Hag has admitted the Red Devils will dive into the January transfer window but may have to opt for another loan move after a busy summer.
The Dutch tactician said: “We are still in the market, but it has to fit the sporting criteria but also the financial criteria and we will do what we can to bring this player that we need.”
