Sarah Vine has spoken about the problems of sustaining a political relationship in the wake of revelations about Matt Hancock’s affair with his aide.

Michael Gove’s wife, a newspaper journalist, wrote in her column for the Mail on Sunday: “Climbing that much up Westminster’s greasy pole changes a man or woman. And when a person changes, they demand anything new from a partner.

“Namely, somebody who is as significantly a courtesan as a companion, one particular who understands their brilliance and, crucially, is individually invested in it.

“Not an individual who thinks it is all a monumental nuisance and needs they would get a good position that does not contain people today poking cameras in your encounter and commenting on your poor choice of footwear.”

Ms Vine, 54 who has been married to Mr Gove, a Cupboard Office environment minister, for 20 yrs mentioned that Mr Hancock’s “conduct may possibly be surprising, but presented the context it is solely predictable”.

She singled out previous Prime Minister David Cameron as getting “special” between all the senior politicians she experienced at any time achieved in “carving out time for his household”.

Ms Vine also praised Samantha Cameron for forcing David to go on “date evenings” with her when they lived in Downing Street in between 2010 and 2016 and for creating confident he never ever forgot his “obligation” to her and the kids.
