Attendees share videos from the event featuring multiple avatars doing nothing on the dance floor

What was apparently meant to testify to how fun the Metaverse is turned out to be quite the opposite – at least, if the stories and videos of a rave held there shared by some of the attendees are anything to go by. To do.

The event was held early Thursday morning in what is called Decentraland, a virtual reality platform similar to that developed by Facebook. The virtual space allows users to explore various locations, communicate with each other, and kill it on the dance floor – although, as some of the footage shared at the heart of it shows, there was very little real dance.

One of the attendees who decided to give outsiders a taste of the fun of the metaverse was Alex Moss, chief technology officer at an NFT development company. On his Twitter account, Moss posted a 37-second clip featuring a group of avatars on the dance floor, most completely still, with techno music playing in the background. The video clip was captioned, “It’s the #metaverse… A live rave happening right now at @decentraland.

Before long, the images went viral on social media, with users mocking the lackluster “party”.

Cut and Vice reporters also dove headlong into the virtual party to give their readers a first-hand experience of the event. The barrier to entry was described as quite low, as all a person needed to participate was a desktop internet browser and an email address. A user is then offered to choose a name and an avatar from a “very limited” selection of characters available.

One of the reporters said he saw no one the first time he walked onto the dance floor. He had to refresh Decentraland before a handful of avatars appeared, floating”6 to 10 inches off the ground, traveling above the ground without moving the legs,“with a person being”stuck in the sky, floating but not moving.

The reporter also described various issues encountered during the party, including the floor and other objects disappearing and flickering. According to his account, there was “about 10 people“on the dance floor, most of them stationary and just”stare into space.
