Meta will let you “reimagine” your friends’ AI-generated images

The one that caught my eye is a tool that will let you remix AI-generated images that your friends share in a Messenger or Instagram chat. Images are created with a tool that Meta calls “imagine,” and the company says you’ll now be able to “reimagine” images that other people create in the group chat by long-pressing on the image and adding a prompt of text.

Meta is also removing the Imagine tool from discussions and allowing US users to access it on the web at imagine.meta.com. The company says the tool is designed for “creative enthusiasts” and is powered by its Emu Image Foundation template. And, in the “coming weeks”, Meta indicates that an “invisible watermark” will be added to images created with its Imagine tool. The company wants to add watermarks to images made with its other AI tools at some point, but it hasn’t made a very detailed commitment: “We aim to bring an invisible watermark to many of our products with AI-generated images. » Meta said in the post.

Meta is also improving its Meta AI assistant, saying it will offer “more detailed answers on mobile” and “more accurate summaries of search results.” Reels will start appearing in your chats with Meta AI. And, according to TechCrunchMeta’s AI characters (based on celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Tom Brady) are now fully available on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram in the US.

There are a handful of other updates in Meta’s blog post, including that Meta is “exploring” how to use generative AI to offer suggestions on things like writing birthday wishes. But the company’s flurry of announcements is almost certainly an attempt to take some of the air out of Google’s big Gemini news that was also announced today. I’d say Google has the most impressive news of the day, but Meta’s new AI tools seem pretty practical.
