  • Melania Trump says a computer science school turned down a donation from her for political reasons.

  • She was “disappointed but not surprised” and said “supporting children” shouldn’t be political.

  • She also said the media coverage had hurt her charitable efforts for American children.

A computer science school has rejected Melania Trump’s offer of a charitable donation for scholarship funds, the former first lady said in a statement Friday.

The school was not named, but Trump said it was founded in Silicon Valley and has a campus in Oklahoma. She said the school initially agreed to work with her new initiative, Fostering the Future, which focuses on education and scholarships for children, but later told her she was backing down.

“They would not accept scholarships from deserving students, even as an anonymous gift. It was made clear to me that the school board made a politically motivated decision,” said Trump.

She said she was “disappointed but not surprised” and that “this is not the first time that politics has stood in the way of my mission to support children”, adding that “supporting children does not and should never be part of a political program”. .”

The New York Times reported that the school’s description matched Holberton School, a San Francisco-based computer science school that has a campus in Tulsa.

The school did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment, but confirmed to The Times that Trump had attempted to make a donation.

“We were approached for a scholarship by his team but we never reached an agreement on the logistics of the scholarship,” said Julien Barbier, the school’s general manager.

Trump also slammed the media in his statement and said it went against his charitable efforts to help American children.
