ehmooda Duke has resigned as chairman of Leicestershire with immediate effect.

Duke was preparing to step down in March 2022, but decided to quit the role earlier and said cricket had been ‘torn apart’ by the lingering allegations of racism inside the game.

“Cricket has been torn apart by recent events and I am deeply saddened by the pain felt by individuals within our game,” she said in a statement posted on the club’s official website.

“With new leadership at the national level and with the determination to learn from the recent past and move forward, I hope that racism and discrimination will be eliminated from the locker rooms, the fields and the game as a whole,” allowing us to celebrate the diversity that makes cricket and sport so great in this country ”.

Current vice-president Jonathan Duckworth will assume his interim duties until the club’s 2022 AGM.
