CARLOTA VIZMANOS is living the dream of the World Cup in Qatar.
The Telemundo anchor, 35, is front and center on the Spanish-speaking broadcaster during the football finals.
Vizmanos, from Madrid, Spain, admits she got into sports journalism “by chance”.
She graduated from CEU San Pablo University in Madrid with a degree in journalism in 2010.
And it was on Real Madrid TV that she made a name for herself in her native Spain, appearing on the cover of Los Blancos for seven years.
Carlota told Forbes: “I majored in sports journalism by accident.
“I was working on a non-sports TV show and suddenly had the opportunity to be on one of the most successful sports radio shows in Spain.
“It was a no-brainer. I had always loved football, so it seemed like a fantastic opportunity.”
“Two years later, I received a call from Real Madrid to work on their own television channel. It was one of the most rewarding professional experiences of my career.”
After playing on screen in Spain, more opportunities opened up for Carlota on the world stage.
Its big breakthrough came five years ago when Telemundo got in touch ahead of the Confederations Cup in Russia.
She continued: “The most important call of all is the one I received from Telemundo in 2017 offering to go as a journalist to the Confederations Cup in Russia.
“The door to the US market opened for me and all the good things that would come from it – the World Cup in Russia, the French Women’s Championship in 2019, a variety of FIFA galas, etc.
“And finally, the big leap, a permanent position in Miami as a sportscaster, a dream come true that started recently, this very summer.”
The new role sees Carlota fronting Telemundo’s English Premier League coverage from a base in Miami.
It brought him a whole new legion of fans in the United States, with 3.4 million football fans tuning in to Telemundo for Spanish commentary from the USMNT opener against Wales.
Carlota brought her husband – whom she married in 2019 – to the United States for the dream role, along with their young son and two dogs.
Carlota continued: “The offer was a dream. My husband and I had thought about this possibility several times.
“We were half talking about it like, ‘if it ever happens, we’re going to do it’.”
You can catch Carlota on Telemundo broadcasts throughout the Qatar World Cup.
