Moldova says some in separatist Transnistria are trying to destabilize the region
There are internal elements in the pro-Russian separatist region of Moldova trying to destabilize the region and inflame tensions, Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu said on Friday, as his country continues efforts to join the European Union. Fears have grown in recent days that Moldova could be drawn into the conflict in neighboring Ukraine, after pro-Russian separatists in the Moldovan region of Transnistria blamed kyiv for what they said were shootings, explosions and cross-border drone incursions. Speaking in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in northern Germany, Popescu said he could not blame, but said it was clear that the recent explosions were occurring as a result of the war in Ukraine.
