Slum Boys and K’Ogalo will meet for the first time this season after both suffering losses in their last games.
Mathare United and K’Ogalo lost conceding four goals as the former was beaten 4-2 by Sofapaka in Wundanyi while the latter lost 4-3 in Nairobi.
“Even though Gor Mahia has started the season badly, they are still a tough team to beat and we have to be at our best to do it,” said Otieno. Facebook page as saying.
“Even more so now that they have a new coach. We have to work as a team from the first whistle to the last. We didn’t start the season on the right foot last weekend against Sofapaka so we have to make amends and avoid another disappointing result at all costs.
Otieno scored his first goal for Mathare United against Gor Mahia in November 2019 and was also on target against Batoto ba Mungu in Wundanyi’s loss. Van Persie, as he’s known, has seven goals for the 2008 Premier League champions and the 2020/21 season is his second with the Eastlands club.
“I scored my first goal for this club against Gor Mahia and it was the winner, so that made it more memorable,” he added. “I want to do the same [on Thursday]. But the most important thing is simply to help the team achieve a victory, whether with a goal or with a last minute tackle.
Mathare United started their season late after the StarTimes broadcast deal created a wedge between them and the Kenya Football Federation. It took the intervention of the Sports Litigation Tribunal (SDT) to reinstate them alongside Zoo FC.
Gor Mahia and Ulinzi stars are the other clubs that have not yet approved the FKF-StarTimes deal, but have been allowed to continue with the season’s missions.
The game between K’Ogalo and the Slum Boys will be played at Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani from 3:00 p.m. EAT.
