Luis Suarez scored the only goal as Atletico Madrid took 13 straight La Liga victories against Getafe without conceding.
Simeone’s historic fixture came against his favorite opponents, having won 16 out of 18 games against neighbors Getafe without conceding – the other two being scoreless draws.
Luis Suarez put Atleti in the lead with his eighth goal in his first 11 league games for the club, tying Radamel Falcao’s record for the most prolific Rojiblancos at the start of this century.
Atleti couldn’t add to his tally but stood safely to move three points real Madrid, who played one more match and are in action against Elche later Wednesday.

The visitors were released after 14 minutes when Thomas Lemar sent an oblique strike against the frame of the goal as he tried to catch Ruben Yanez.
But Getafe, which ended an 11-game wait for an away league win last time on their trip, couldn’t hold out for long as Suarez watched Yannick Carrasco’s delivery.
Suarez led over 15 yards soon after, but a bigger chance went begging Angel Rodriguez on the other end, the striker heading straight for Jan Oblak up close.
Oblak was called into action again just before the hour mark to prevent Jaime Mata’s header with a routine save, while Carrasco was thwarted by Yanez in a slim second half of chances.
What does it mean? Atletico enter in 2021 in first place
While Real Madrid also ended the year in good form, Atleti couldn’t afford to slip at home and give their bitter rivals a chance to pounce.
The win – a sixth in a row at the Wanda Metropolitano in the league – ensures that Simeone’s men start 2021 atop La Liga and will be favorites for many to stay there.
It was vintage Atletico in many ways, scoring on one of only three shots on target in a game where possession was pretty close to middle.
Suarez continues his impressive form
The old one Barcelona the forward has now been involved in eight goals in his last seven LaLiga games against Getafe – six goals and two assists – including a goal three in a row against them in LaLiga.
Atletico ended Diego Costa’s contract on Tuesday and, based on the form of Suarez and Joao Felix, with the pair scoring 13 goals between them in the Spanish top flight this quarter, it’s no wonder why.
No longer needed from Vrsaljko
As Kieran Trippier begins a 10-week ban for breaking the Football Association’s betting rules, Sime Vrsaljko has been brought in for his first league start to the league.
Vrsaljko suffered injuries and only lasted 57 minutes before being substituted, with the right-back’s lack of form evident.
He improved at times but only completed 16 of 24 passes, his accuracy of 66.7% being the third lowest of all Atleti starters, behind Suarez (63.6) and Marcos Llorente (53.3 )
