Marjorie Taylor Greene is working to become former President Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024, according to a report.
Former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who hosts a podcast on which the Republican representative from Georgia appeared, told NBC News that “she’s not a shrinking violet, she’s ambitious , she’s not shy about it, and she shouldn’t be.”
“She sees herself on Trump’s VP shortlist. Paraphrasing Cokie Roberts, when MTG looks in the mirror, she sees a potential president smiling back,” he said, referring to the late NPR political reporter.
Another source, who served as an adviser to Ms Greene, told NBC that “her whole vision is to be vice president”. The source told the outlet he believed she was on Mr Trump’s list of potential vice presidents.
The sources told NBC that the goal of becoming Mr. Trump’s running mate is at the heart of his recent efforts to change his image to that of a politician capable of bridging the rift within the Republican Party between its members of extreme right and the establishment.
It also follows his extensive efforts to elect Kevin McCarthy as President and his appointment to the Homeland Security and Oversight and Accountability Committees. From her perch, she can play a leading role in the investigations of President Joe Biden.
Mr. Bannon told NBC that it was a calculated risk to endorse the California Republican for the presidency and, in doing so, to distance himself from some of his colleagues in the House Freedom Caucus who were working to prevent Mr. McCarthy to grab the gavel.
