Manon Aubry (LFI), guest of Extra Local: “Domestic violence has nothing to do with us” – France

Manon Aubry, MEP for rebellious France (LFI), was the guest, this Friday, of Marie Brette on Public Senate and local television.

A large part of the program was devoted to the Quatennens affair, which some perceived as an offensive by the feminists of the movement against Jean-Luc Mélenchon who had praised the “courage” of his spiritual son who was finally dismissed from his post as coordinator after a letter in which he confessed to having “slapped” his wife.

Support having caused quite a stir internally after the ousting of the nomination for the legislative elections of Taha Bouhafs and the questioning this summer of the chairman of the finance committee Éric Coquerel.

When asked to name an emblematic personality, Manon Aubry spontaneously thinks of Gisèle Halimi and the Bobigny trial of illegally aborted women.

She also quotes Simone de Beauvoir on the precariousness of acquired positions or Jean-Jaurès on the slowness of accomplishing major tasks.

Quatennens: “He is in the background and we take note of it”

But the news of the week was focused on the domestic violence of Adrien Quatennens, who “when we are a feminist movement like ours have nothing to do with us”, according to Manon Aubry. “The decision is clearly made. He is in the background and we take note of it, ”she says.

And the MEP LFI to specify: “I will not fall into the same traps into which the government fell by exploiting this story, in particular to question – this is the case of the Minister for Women’s Rights – the very existence of the committee for the fight against domestic violence”.

“We cannot escape the existence of this violence”

Manon Aubry considers that LFI is “a political organization that reflects society. We live in a society that is patriarchal so we cannot escape the existence of this violence. The difference is that we are aware of them, the difference is that we fight them, that we equip ourselves with prevention and repair tools and that is a huge difference”.

And MP Aubry to drive the point home by insisting on distinguishing her movement from the majority party. “Emmanuel Macron has protected men accused of extremely serious acts, rape, in the cases of Damien Abad and Nicolas Hulot, sexual favors in exchange for accommodation for Gérald Darmanin”.

Awaiting the outcome of the judicial inquiry

Reacting to the declaration of Manuel Bompard who asked that we distinguish a slap from repeated domestic violence, Manon Aubry first felt that his words had been truncated. To recognize then that one cannot “consider in the same way an act of harassment, physical violence, rape” because that risked serving the cause of women. While emphasizing that there was a continuum in the violence and that it often started with a slap.

Priding himself especially that his political movement was the quickest to react by taking a precautionary measure. Then rejecting the decision on the mandate of deputy of Quatennens to the result of the judicial inquiry by recalling that LFI was the only party to have defended the recall referendum.
