MANCHESTER CITY are planning talks with Bernardo Silva over his long-term plans amid fresh interest from Barcelona.
The Portuguese ace has made no secret of his wish to be closer to his native country over the past two years.
And City would like to know where they stand as they have made revamping their midfield the top priority for the next tight season.
Reports in Spain this week indicate the Nou Camp giants will move again for the £80m-rated star this summer.
City don’t want to lose Bernardo who enjoyed a glittering five-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
And they won’t be forced to sell him on the cheap as he still has more than two and a half years left on his contract.
However, Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he won’t keep players at the club against their will if a suitable offer arrives.
There were no offers to turn City’s head last summer despite reports of a last-minute helping hand from Paris Saint Germain.
Bernardo had a heart-to-heart with the club towards the end of the transfer window and vowed to give it his all as long as he remains in the North West.
From a lifestyle point of view, he would like to move to Spain – although he admits that in terms of football he is in the best possible place.

He has been a big part of the club’s success in recent seasons and is hugely popular in the dressing room and among the fans.
But City will look to see if he’s still keen on moving on – or if he might be tempted by a contract extension.
Skipper Ilkay Gundogan is in the final year of his contract and no decision has yet been made on his future.
But if the Germany international leaves and Silva also wants to leave, that would leave City with a significant void to fill in midfield.
England ace Phil Foden has agreed a new deal with the club and an announcement is expected very soon.
He was close to being signed 12 months ago before the 22-year-old parted ways with his agency at the end of 2021 – but all issues have now been resolved.
And the champions are still hoping another academy graduate, James McAtee, will return and work his way into the calculus at the Etihad after a year on loan at Sheffield United.
