Man accused in 1975 Pa. cold case held for trial

Lancaster County man charged with murder of Lindy Sue Biechler held for trial

A Lancaster County man charged with homicide in 1975 has been ordered to stand trial. David Sinopoli, 68, said nothing as he left a courtroom after a preliminary hearing on Thursday. Police say Sinopoli stabbed 19-year-old Lindy Sue Biechler to death in her Manor Township apartment in 1975. It is Lancaster County’s oldest cold case. Investigators said they used DNA and genetic genealogy technology to help identify Sinopoli. was arrested in July at his home in East Hempfield Township and remains in Lancaster County Jail. An arraignment is scheduled for October 28. Lindy’s aunt and uncle Sue Biechler found her body on December 5, 1975, at her home at Spring Apartments mansion in Manor Township. She had been stabbed 19 times in the back, chest and neck. She also had defensive wounds. At a press conference this summer, Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams said that at one time Sinopoli lived in the same four-unit apartment building, which had a common lobby, in which lived Biechler. the same building for some time, Adams gave no specifics of a Sinopoli-Biechler connection. Police say Sinopoli stabbed 19-year-old Lindy Sue Biechler to death in her Manor Township apartment in 1975 in Lancaster County’s oldest cold case.

Investigators said they used DNA and genetic genealogy technology to help identify Sinopoli.

Sinopoli faces a charge of criminal homicide.

He was arrested in July at his home in East Hempfield Township and remains in Lancaster County Jail.

An arraignment is scheduled for October 28.

The Lindy Sue Biechler Affair

Biechler’s aunt and uncle found his body on December 5, 1975, at his Spring Manor Apartments home in Manor Township. She had been stabbed 19 times in the back, chest and neck. She also had defensive wounds.

At a press conference this summer, Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams said that at one time Sinopoli lived in the same four-unit apartment building, which had a common lobby, in which Biechler lived.

Other than living in the same building for a time, Adams did not elaborate on the connection between Sinopoli and Biechler.
