Delvin Pérez seemed to be enjoying his home run on Thursday until he discovered far too late that the ball was caught for an out. (Watch the video below.)
Pérez, of the minor league Triple-A team Memphis Redbirds, hit a drive against the Gwinnett Stripers and looked certain the ball went over the wall. He looked down at his majestic arc, flipped his bat, and started to roll around the bases.
But he didn’t notice that a high wind turned him into an easy catch for the left fielder. Still, Pérez kept running to home plate in celebration.

Pérez later lamented that the ball did not go over the fence. On Instagram, he noted that his speed out of his bat was 107 miles per hour and only resulted in a “steal”.
“Let’s go,” he wrote.
