Lewis Ritson says Jeremias Ponce’s knockout prediction is “music to my ears” as he is ready for an “explosive” night at Newcastle.
The 27-year-old takes on Ponce in an IBF super-lightweight final eliminator on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports, and his Argentinian opponent promised to end the combat from a distance.
But Ritson relishes the chance to show his destructive power to fans in his hometown, with the winner becoming the obligatory challenger to undisputed champion of Scotland Josh Taylor.
“Definitely in need of a new performance,” said Ritson Air sports. “An explosive performance to get the fans talking again, like they were a few fights ago.
“It’s really music to my ears [Ponce’s knockout prediction]. I want him to show up, I want him to try. He won’t have to find me very far. Hopefully he comes with that attitude on Saturday and we’ll be happy.
“I want the fans to come back, bounce back. That’s what they’re going to get, they’re going to get a really good performance from Lewis Ritson.”
Croatian contender Alen Babic is also returning to action after shoulder surgery with a clash against Damian Chambers.
Thomas Patrick Ward risks his unbeaten run against Edy Valencia Mercado, while Joe Laws can put his first professional loss behind him when he faces Chris Adaway.
Sol Dacres is aiming for his second heavyweight victory against Alvaro Terrero and Cyrus Pattinson is making his professional debut against Yoncho Markov.
