Las Vegas bridge collapse leaves one person injured, officials say

One person was injured when a highway bridge collapsed in Las Vegas, authorities said.

The bridge was part of a Nevada Department of Transportation demolition project on US 95, according to reports.

But part of the bridge unexpectedly collapsed Thursday afternoon, according to Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Justin Hopkins.

NDOT said they knew an employee had been injured and was being treated for his injuries.

“We don’t have any details yet on the extent of these injuries and we are working to get real-time updates,” Mr Hopkins told KVVU.

The city’s fire department said The Las Vegas Review Log that they had received a report of a collapsed bridge and a person trapped in the rubble.

Mr Hopkins said crews had been knocking down sections of the bridge in a controlled manner all week as part of replacement and upgrade work for a $40 million 95 overpass.
