A nearly two-hour police chase ended in Pomona on Tuesday when a murder suspect collided with a large platform which the driver said was trying to stop the chase.
Michael Caleb Reed, 36, drove a dark-colored van through four counties, sometimes heading into opposite traffic, as police followed him. He was arrested and is being held without bail.
A woman in the passenger seat, identified as Roxy Rich of Bakersfield, was arrested and released.
Reed is believed to have shot and killed a 40-year-old man in Oildale in late March.
The big rig driver told Fox 11 he crashed into the van to stop it before anyone was hurt.
“I was expecting him,” said the driver. “I just thought about getting him off the street, because if I haven’t, if they’ve been behind him for so long and they haven’t stopped him, I have the power. .
At around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies and California Highway Patrol units began chasing the truck.
The chase traveled south to Escondido before returning to Riverside County, crossing the Jurupa Valley on Highway 60 westbound into the Ontario region and then into Los County. Angeles.
During the chase, Reed could be seen throwing papers on the freeway, lifting his middle finger and removing both hands from the wheel as he drove at high speed.
Reed left 60 heading east in Pomona and passed through residential areas, alleys and parking lots. At one point, his erratic driving resulted in a head-on collision between a sedan and a box truck, but no injuries were reported.
At Holt and San Antonio avenues, the large platform slipped into the intersection and crashed into the front of the truck.
Reed was captured on video crawling on his stomach with several guns on him. At one point, he stopped to do push-ups.
After being released, Rich, the passenger, spoke to reporters and onlookers.
In a video shown on Fox 11, she said she did not know Reed was wanted for murder.
Then she questioned the allegation.
“It could have been self-defense. Did you ask this? she says.
