(AP) — Kraft Heinz announced Tuesday it is recalling more than 83,000 cases of individually wrapped Kraft Singles Processed American Cheese slices because part of the packaging could stick to the slice and pose a choking hazard.
The company, based in Chicago and Pittsburgh, said one of its packaging machines developed a temporary problem that allows a thin strip of film to remain on the edge even after it is removed from the package. The machine has since been repaired.
Kraft Heinz said it initiated the voluntary recall after receiving several complaints from consumers. In six cases, people said the problem caused nausea or choking, but no injuries or serious health problems were reported, Kraft Heinz said.
The recall involves the 16-ounce Kraft Singles American pasteurized prepared cheese product with a best before date between January 10, 2024 and January 27, 2024. The recall also includes 3-pound multi-packs of Kraft Singles American. Pasteurized prepared cheese product with an expiration date between January 9, 2024 and January 13, 2024.
Consumers who purchased these products should not consume them and should return them to the store where they were purchased for an exchange or refund, Kraft Heinz said. Consumers can also contact Kraft Heinz at 1-800-280-8252 to see if a product is part of the recall and receive a refund.
