The accident occurred Wednesday, May 18, around 11:30 a.m., rue de Fougères in Rennes, near the Maurepas park. A 78-year-old man who was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing was violently hit by a car.
When paramedics arrived, the man was quickly taken care of. Transported in absolute urgency by an SMUR vehicle to the Pontchaillou hospital, he unfortunately died of his injuries in the evening.
The driver did not have a valid license
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Congo, was taken into custody according to the prosecution. “He was driving a Citroën C3 which had been lent to him, with a driving license which is not valid in France”, reveals Philippe Astruc, the Public Prosecutor.
