Kelvin Yondani: Polisi Tanzania seals the services of former Yanga SC defender

The administrative side is keen to strengthen its rearguard to have a chance to finish in the top 5

Polished Tanzania sealed the services of veteran defender Kelvin Yondani.

The 36-year-old has been a free agent since his release by Yanga SC at the start of the season. He has now joined the administrative side on a one-year contract in the hopes of bringing experience in the defensive department.

Club communications manager Frank Lukwaro believes the center-back will have a positive influence on Polisi.

“We are happy to finally have Yondani on our squad and his defensive skills will play a vital role in strengthening our bottom line for the next games in the league,” he said after sealing the deal.

Yondani could make his new squad debut on Thursday in the league assignment against Azam FC at Ushirika Stadium in Moshi.

On August 7, Timu ya Wananchi parted ways with Yondani alongside Juma Abdul.

The Jangwani Street-based team confirmed with a statement that they had failed to agree on a new contract with the players.

“The management of [Yanga SC] announced the departure of their star players Kelvin Yondani and Juma Abdul after failing to reach an agreement on their contracts ”, confirmed the 27 champions of the league.

The move ended Yondani’s stay at the club he joined in 2012 due to bitter rivals Simba SC. He helped Wananchi win four Tanzania Mainland League titles.

Meanwhile, Lukwaro insisted defender Iddy Mobby is still under contract with Polisi Tanzania and has not left. The player has been linked with a move to reigning champions Simba SC or their bitter rivals Young Africans.

“These are just rumors since, so far, Mobby is still our player. We have a contract with him and so far we have not received any offers for him.

“If a club wants to sign him, then we’re going to sit down and do some business, but right now Mobby is in the camp with his colleagues getting ready for our next game.”

Polis Tanzania is currently in sixth place in the Tanzania Mainland League table with 23 points from 17 matches played.

They aim to finish the 2020/21 campaign in the top five and aside from Yondani apparently they want to add three more players to the squad.
