Just a day after House Speaker Rusty Bowers regaled the nation with the shameful plan to overthrow democracy in Arizona, the Republican Party’s payback has begun.
State GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward is positively heartbroken by Bowers’ testimony before the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Uprising, in which he reminded us that there are still Republicans who haven’t lost their minds.
Or their integrity.
Over the past 24 hours, Ward has belittled Bowers, belittled him, and even kissed his fifth-year inner bully and gave him a nickname: “Rusty Bowels.”
And, oh yes, she endorsed her opponent in the Aug. 2 Republican primary for the state Senate.
Parties do not usually take sides in a primary
Let me repeat it. The leader of the Arizona Republican Party took sides in an Arizona Republican primary.
Just as she is in the bag for a Trump-endorsed Kari Lake in what amounts to a three-way Republican primary.
Other, more professional party agents will tell you that never arrived. The role of the party, they will tell you, is to remain neutral as candidates to contest a primary and then unite voters behind the party candidate.
Instead, we have Ward endorsing former state senator David Farnsworth, who is coming out of retirement to try and bring down Bowers. Farnsworth is one of 29 lawmakers who in December 2020 signed the plan asking Vice President Mike Pence to accept all 11 “alternative” electoral votes for Trump.
“Alternative” being another word for false.
As the vote tally, multiple legally mandated sample recounts and a “full forensic audit” showed, Arizona voters did not elect Ward and his 10 fellow phonies to vote for Donald Trump. And Bowers was not about to agree to the plot to shred the Constitution so Trump could steal the election.
Instead, Kelli Ward gives us this
And so we get this:
And we get this:
I guess the “troll” is in the eye of the beholder.
At least one Republican official calls out Ward, calling her “a maniacal president…determined to destroy the GOP.”
Is it too early to launch a campaign to recruit Sen. TJ Shope, R-Cooldige, for the position of Republican Party chairman in the state?
Putting an adult in charge would do wonders for the old Grand Old Party.
Bowers honored his oath. He’s not a “loser”
I guess it’s not so surprising that Ward has a thing for Bowers, a staunchly conservative Republican who toes the party line in all but one way — he won’t trade his integrity aside for Donald Trump.
Ward, meanwhile, was at the center of the behind-the-scenes ploy to overturn Arizona’s election — from his campaign to pressure the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors as Biden surged ahead (“We need you stop counting”) to her fake campaign plot claiming she was duly elected to vote for Trump at her request for a “full forensic audit.”
An audit, by the way, that found no evidence of widespread fraud.
Bowers is a deeply religious man who acted as his conscience required and honored his oath. That of the Constitution, that is to say.
Only in the warped mind of Kelli Ward would that make him a “loser”.
