Keigo Oyamada: Tokyo Olympics opening and closing ceremonies composer resigns over historical bullying remarks

Oyamada — who is also known by the stage moniker Cornelius — has faced a social media backlash soon after reviews made in the 1990s with Japanese journal Rockin’On Japan not long ago started circulating on the net. In the opinions, he described abusing fellow classmates with clear disabilities although at university.

Oyamada introduced a statement Friday admitting to his earlier actions and apologizing for the outcomes it experienced on his classmates and their households.

Next the criticism over his bullying and abusive conduct, Oyamada stated Monday in a Twitter put up that accepting a position on the creative group to give music to the Video games “lacked consideration.”

Oyamada said he had supplied his resignation to the Olympic arranging committee and that he was grateful for the “thoughts specified to me and would like to reflect them in my future habits and believed,” prior to adding that he was “very sorry.”

Oyamada’s resignation is the hottest controversy to rock the Tokyo Olympics, which were being postponed from final year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Organizers have faced a selection of large-profile departures in new months. In March, Hiroshi Sasaki, innovative director for the opening and closing ceremonies, apologized and resigned soon after creating a derogatory comment about common feminine Japanese entertainer Naomi Watanabe.
A thirty day period before, Tokyo Olympics chief Yoshiro Mori stepped down following sexist remarks he created about women have been leaked to the media.
