Fans of Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, are finding new ways to use the internet communities dedicated to the rapper following his string of anti-Semitic behavior this week.
The response to Ye largely focuses on an interview he gave on Thursday, in which he praised Adolf Hitler and said he had seen “good things” about the Nazi dictator.
Many users on Reddit’s “Kanye” forum chastised the rapper’s remarks this week. Some shared photos and comments about the horrors of the Holocaust, while others posted messages to remember the 6 million Jews who perished in the genocide.
A user has sworn he will die before he pays respect to those responsible for the mass murders of World War II. Another revealed his recent financial support for the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Some have spoken of their family ties to the genocide, including one user who said his grandfather was released from a concentration camp.
One person, who said they identify as Jewish, wrote in a post that the forum’s Holocaust memorial posts made them cry.
“Thank you for standing up for us,” the user said.
“I grew up listening to Kanye…and even though I haven’t listened to any of his stuff after 2018, that means so much you can’t stand this anti-Semitism. Fuck Nazis and fuck Kanye.
A number of people on the “Kanye” subreddit have also posted about their support for Taylor Swift in order to distance themselves from the rapper. Ye controversially interrupted the singer during the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009.
Meanwhile, a Ye-themed community moderator “WestSubEver” wrote on Thursday that the forum will be shut down for the foreseeable future, adding that Ye’s anti-Semitic interview was the “final nail in the coffin.”
“When this sub and previous subs were created, they were meant to follow and support Ye on his various adventures,” the moderator said.
“At the moment, there are no more businesses for Ye that are not openly hateful towards various groups of people. Again, we do not condone any of the hate speech that Ye and his new peers are spreading.”
