And he did it by refusing guaranteed trophies in Germany

Klopp moved to Anfield in 2015 to manage a club in disarray, with a sub-par squad following the departures of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard, and only one trophy in the previous eight seasons.

Fast forward seven years, and Klopp recently signed a two-year contract extension after guiding Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years and their sixth European Cup.

But, if winning was all that mattered, he would probably be long gone, as he has now revealed.

“I could have gone to Bayern many times,” Klopp said. “I could have won more titles in my life, I would say I didn’t.

“I had a contract here and I never went to Bayern. It’s completely fine. The world is not full of winners, the world is full of tries, hopefully.

“And I try and sometimes win with other people together. I’m happy with that.

Former Borussia Dortmund coach Klopp has long been linked with a return to his native country

Liverpool still have a chance of claiming an unprecedented four-time English trophy, looking to add to their Carabao Cup triumph in February.

It’s the longest of any team in all four competitions, but as Klopp explained, it’s not about the end, it’s about the journey, and there’s no place he’d rather do it .

He said: “Which club should I go to to have a different situation? Tell me.

“The only thing I could do was ask Pep [Guardiola] if he’s tired of all this winning and I take over at City! Is that the idea? It wouldn’t work, I don’t want to do it.

Guardiola has taken aim at Klopp recently but the German says he likes it rough and wouldn’t want to manage City

“This club has been through incredibly difficult times and has always fought back, and if people can’t appreciate the time we’re having or the team they have, I would be really touched by them because it’s fantastic what do these boys.

“If we’re all happy only to win at the end of your race, what would that life be like?” When I say “enjoy the trip”, I mean it. Enjoy the journey because there have been so many great moments already.

“If we stop now it’s not great, we didn’t win the FA Cup final and we didn’t win the Champions League final and we finished second in the Premier League.

“Forget it and just say ‘Wow, that was a ride.’ is the only way to satisfy you, I can’t help you.
