Jude Bellingham once again demonstrated his true class by playing a key role in Marcus Rashford’s goal against Italy.
England came from the edge of their own box in Euro 2024 qualifying and launched an excellent counter-attack to lead 2-1.
Bellingham collected the ball from Phil Foden’s pass and slotted it over Giorgio Scalvini’s head before advancing.
His pass to the left found Rashford who then cut inside and fired into the bottom right corner to give England the lead.
It was a goal that showed the quality that Gareth Southgate has and talkSPORT commentators praised Bellingham for his role.
Former Three Lions captain Stuart Pearce said: “We talked about England’s cutting edge.
“From their own box and Bellingham’s challenge we broke, Bellingham passed it over the centre-back’s head and he went away.
“I thought the ball was a bit slow behind Rashford but he got it, cut inside and unloaded an unstoppable shot into the corner. Fantastic cutting edge attacking play from England, from Rashford, from Bellingham. When we pick up the tempo, we pose a massive threat.
Jim Proudfoot added: “Bellingham’s contribution cannot be overstated. »
Bellingham now has five assists to his name for club and country this season, his previous one for England coming in the 3-1 win over Scotland.
He played in his 27th appearance for the Three Lions, who initially fell behind against Italy thanks to Gianluca Scamacca’s goal.
Harry Kane leveled the score with a penalty after a foul on Bellingham inside the area, with Rashford scoring his goal before the captain’s second of the night.
