Manchester United have appointed Benni McCarthy as the club’s new first-team manager.
Winner of the Champions League with Porto, the striker will join the secret team of coach Erik ten Hag.

McCarthy had a decent start to his coaching career and Man United took notice
It will be a dream move for the 44-year-old, a lifelong Premier League giants fan.
McCarthy had an impressive playing career which saw him lift Europe’s top flight trophy with Porto in 2004.
He also played for Ajax, Celta Vigo, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham before ending his career in his native country with South African side Orlando Pirates.
Ten Hag brought Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag with him when he arrived at Old Trafford.
Now, however, the Dutch boss has made another addition with McCarthy reportedly tasked with helping forwards finish and position themselves, among other roles.
He previously ran Cape Town City and Amazulu.

McCarthy, however, helped knock Man United out of the Champions League in 2004
In an interview with FourFourTwo in 2017, McCarthy revealed he was reprimanded in 2004 for his reaction to helping Porto beat the Red Devils in the Champions League.
He scored twice in the 2-1 win in Portugal before a 1-1 draw sent them through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
“I support Man United and always wanted to play for them,” he said. “I loved players like Mark Hughes, Andy Cole and Ryan Giggs.
“So I was heartbroken to score twice. My dream was to score once at Old Trafford, not knock United out of the Champions League. I was hammered after the game by Jose Mourinho because I was not very happy. He told me that if I was not happy, I would never play in his team again.
