Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial halted as onlooker bursts into uncontrollable laughter

The highly publicized libel lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was halted on Wednesday as a bystander burst into uncontrollable laughter inside the courtroom.

The man was filmed laughing with his head in his hands as he sat in the courthouse gallery in Fairfax, Virginia, watching the day’s testimony.

Several other onlookers were spotted staring at the man and smiling at his reaction.

Seconds later, the man – seemingly unable to regain his composure – got up and walked out of the courtroom.

It’s unclear what initially caused the man to burst out laughing, but the incident came on the same day that pre-recorded emotional testimony from Ms Heard’s former best friend Raquel Pennington was presented in court.

Ms Pennington broke down in tears as she testified she was ‘scared’ the ‘monster’ Johnny Depp was ‘doing something worse than he had planned’ at the Aquaman actress.

This isn’t the first time the courtroom has erupted in laughter during the multimillion-dollar trial.

Last month, several viewers were heard bursting into laughter when Mr Depp said he did not watch his own films and could not remember the question he was asked.

“I don’t watch them. I feel better not watching them. What was the question again? Mr. Depp said.

As laughter erupted in the room, the judge warned that people would be kicked out of the room if the behavior continued.

“Order the court, or I’ll have you fired,” Judge Azcarate said.

On another occasion, Mr Depp caused a laugh when he joked that every hour was ‘happy hour’ when asked about his alcohol and drug problems.

He also got a laugh at another point in his testimony when he predicted a hearsay objection from Ms Heard’s lawyers, telling the court “I’m learning”.

Mr Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post where she describes herself as a “public figure representing domestic violence”.

the Pirates of the Caribbean The actor is not named in the article, which is titled “I spoke out against sexual violence – and faced the wrath of our culture. This must change”.

However, Mr Depp claims this falsely implies he is a domestic abuser – which he strongly denies – and has left him struggling to land roles in Hollywood. He’s suing for $50 million.

Ms Heard is fighting back for $100million, accusing Mr Depp of orchestrating a ‘smear campaign’ against her and describing her lawsuit as a continuation of ‘abuse and harassment’.
