Jérémie Peltier: “We live in an apathetic moment vis-à-vis democracy”

THE GUEST OF THE DAY © France 24

Director of Studies of the Jean Jaurès Foundation, Jérémie Peltier delivers his analysis the day after the second round of regional elections in France, largely shunned by the French. He sees in the massive abstention which marked this ballot a manifestation of a disinterest in the public debate which makes “obsolete the republican rite of the vote in the voting booth”. For him, “this vote had a collective dimension”, today hardly compatible with “the individualization of society”.
