Jeff Bridges says he had Covid during his chemo and it made ‘cancer look like a piece of cake’

Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges said on Monday that his lymphoma was in remission and that he was feeling better after battling Covid-19, which he said made “cancer look like a piece of cake.”

“My cancer is in remission – the 9×12 mass has shrunk to the size of a marble,” wrote Bridges, probably best known for playing The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” in 1998 on his website.

Bridges, 71, announced in October last year that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of cancer of the blood. He said at the time that his prognosis was “good” and that he was starting treatment.

On Monday, Bridges also shared that his “Covid is the rearview mirror.”

“Covid kicked my ass pretty well, but I’m doubly vaccinated and feel a lot better,” he wrote, saying he thought the vaccine was to be thanked for its “rapid improvement”.

Bridges linked to an update he wrote in March, but did not publish, which revealed he had been exposed to Covid while undergoing chemotherapy treatments. He said his wife also caught the virus and was hospitalized for five days, while he was there for five weeks.

“The reason I’m there so long is because my immune system is affected by the chemo,” he wrote.

“My dancing with Covid makes my cancer look like a piece of cake,” he added.

Bridges said he had “moments of tremendous pain”, during which he was screaming “all night long” as he felt he was “approaching the pearly doors”. But “overall I felt cheerful and happy most of the time.”

“This contact with mortality has given me a real gift: life is short and beautiful. Love is all around us and available at all times,” said Bridges, learned from his experience.

Bridges said on Monday that until recently he needed oxygen assistance to walk around. “The sound reminds me of Darth Vader,” he said.

But with the help of therapy, Bridges said, he was able to achieve his goal of walking his daughter, Hayley, down the aisle during her wedding. Bridges also got to enjoy the father-daughter dance with his “oxygen-free” daughter, he shared, with a sweet video of the moment.
