Jan. 6 committee adviser says White House called rioter during Capitol uprising

The White House switchboard connected a phone call to a Capitol rioter while the attack on Congress was underway, a former adviser to the Jan. 6 committee claims.

“I know of only one end to this call,” said Denver Riggleman, a technical adviser who has worked with Congress. 60 minutes. “I don’t know the end of the White House, which I think is more important. But the fact is, the American people need to know that there are connections that need to be explored further.”

Mr. Riggleman, a former military intelligence officer and Republican congressman from Virginia, is the author of a forthcoming book that argues that the Jan. 6 committee needed to further investigate communication tapes like the alleged call from the White House.

“From my point of view…being in counterterrorism. If the White House, even if it’s a short call, and it’s a connected call, who is actually making that phone call? he added in the 60 minutes interview. “Is there a simple, innocent explanation for this?

A spokesperson for the January 6 select committee told CBS News he had followed up on all the key elements of his investigation, the conclusions of which will be released at the end of 2022.

“In his role on the staff of the select committee, Mr. Riggleman had limited knowledge of the committee’s investigation,” the spokesperson said. “He left the staff in April ahead of our hearings and much of our most important investigative work…Since his departure, the Committee has scoured every lead, digested and analyzed all of the information emerging from its work.

Communications records were a key focus of the Jan. 6 committee, along with areas where some feel further investigation is needed.

After January 6, the communications records senior Ministry of Defense officials were also cleared.
