HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — A father charged with the death of his one-month-old son at a west Houston motel was originally scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday morning, but that has since changed.
Officials said Jamal Edward Robertson, 33, was still being treated Friday morning and could be scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.
Robertson is accused of beating his baby, Santana Robertson, because he was crying, according to court records.
The baby was found dead Tuesday afternoon when Houston police were called to a Motel 6 located at 15101 Katy Freeway off Highway 6.
Initially there was very little information about what happened but now we are hearing complaints from Santana’s mother with allegations about what she said happened in the motel room .
Alana Gabriel claimed that Robertson hit and shook their son because he kept crying. Gabriel said she tried to intervene, but Robertson was violent with her and she was afraid of him.
She said she fell asleep that day and woke up to realize Santana was dead.
“It’s not OK. You could have left. You didn’t have to do this to your own child, especially my child,” Gabriel said.
Gabriel also said Robertson was jealous of the attention the baby was getting.
“Santana didn’t ask to be born. He’s just a little baby. He was a good baby. He was a happy baby and that’s what you do. You could have blamed me , not to him,” Gabriel said. .
Robertson is charged with injury to a child – grievous bodily harm in this case.
He also faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated assault of a family member, according to court documents, following a prior unrelated incidents. His obligations total over $900,000.
