Jagmeet Singh calls for an emergency debate on child health care

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has called for an emergency debate in the House of Commons to discuss the ‘urgent and growing’ situation at children’s hospitals across Canada as they deal with an influx of sick children .

Singh wrote to the president to give advance notice of the request, citing several alarming developments across the country.

Just last week, CHEO, Ottawa’s Children’s Hospital, called on the Canadian Red Cross to bolster staff who are treating record numbers of babies and children with respiratory illnesses.

Meanwhile, Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary is using a heated trailer as an additional waiting room due to the number of young patients coming in for help.

Singh called for more federal action to address the health care crisis and for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to meet with premiers to find a solution.

He says urgent government action should be informed by parliamentary debate.
