Jack Nicklaus: ‘Cancel culture’ reason PGA quit Trump-owned course

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Jack Nicklaus hinted that it’s not really difficult to understand why the PGA Tour retired its championship from New Jersey in favor of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

That’s because Donald Trump owns the course in New Jersey.

Nicklaus therefore felt compelled to call PGA CEO Seth Waugh, who made the decision to move the event to January.

“I love Seth Waugh,” Nicklaus told Fire Pit Collective. “Seth didn’t need the job. He took the job because he thought he could give good advice to the PGA of America.

“But this decision undoes the culture. Donald Trump may be many things, but he loves golf and he loves this country. He’s a student of the game and a tremendous figure in the game. What he will do in the future in golf will depend on what the cancel culture allows him to do.”

Nicklaus has won 18 major tournaments, the most in history. He also endorsed Trump ahead of the 2020 election.

Waugh referenced the Capitol riots when announcing the Jan. 18 move.

“We are in a political situation, not of our doing,” Waugh said. “We are trustees for our members, for the game, for our mission and for our brand. And how best to protect that? Our feeling was given the tragic events of Wednesday that we could no longer hold it in Bedminster. The damage could have be irreparable. The only real course of action was to leave.”
