Israeli PM wishes recovery to Salman Rushdie

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) – Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid has condemned the attack on famed novelist Salman Rushdie, who was stabbed at a New York literary festival, wishing him a speedy recovery.

Rushdie, 75, was about to give a talk at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York on Friday when he was suddenly stabbed twice by Hadi Matar, 24, of New Jersey. Rushdie’s literary agent, Andrew Wylie, told media that the author remains hospitalized and at risk of losing an eye. Rushdie also suffered liver damage and the nerves in one of his arms were severed. He has already undergone surgery.
