Jared Goff will start as a quarterback for the Rams in their NFC Division Round playoff game against the Packers on Saturday.
Goff hasn’t started since the Rams’ Week 16 loss to the Seahawks. He sustained a fractured right thumb in the game and underwent surgery the next day.
NFL PLAYOFFS: Divisional round pick versus the spread
John Wolford, who played in Week 17 and then again in Game 1 of the playoffs against Seattle, took a blow to the head last weekend. Wolford hasn’t been able to come back – which has forced Goff to step up, while grooming his thumb – and the 25-year-old has now been ruled out against the Packers, the team confirmed Thursday.
It means a comeback for Goff, who completed just 9 of 19 passes off the bench last time around, but pitched for a touchdown and no interceptions in a thwarted victory.

The top pick in the 2016 draft has failed to convince since a dismal Super Bowl loss at the end of the 2018 season. Goff was rewarded for that playoff series with a new $ 134 million contract, including a then record $ 110 million in guarantees, but he threw 29 picks over the next two campaigns.
Meanwhile, Week 17’s win over the Cardinals was Wolford’s arc in the NFL, and he racked up 231 passing yards and 56 rushing yards.
With Wolford not at all involved against Green Bay this week, Blake Bortles is in line to serve as a replacement for Goff.
