This Sunday, February 20 around 6:30 – 7 a.m., a tank of milk intended for the Sodiaal factory in Carhaix was intercepted at the Le Ménestrel restaurant in Sainte Catherine in Plounévézel.
“Hooded individuals”
According to our information, “hooded individuals” would have invited the driver of the truck to park away, in the parking lot near the chapel of Sainte Catherine. They would have opened one of the valves of the cistern, letting out nearly 16,000 liters of milk.
Contacted, the Châteaulin gendarmerie company confirms that a truck “has indeed been intercepted” but specifies that “the circumstances are not yet known and that there is nothing to indicate that the individuals in question were hooded”. It also specifies that a complaint has been filed by Sodiaal.
For his part, Yann Manac’h, president of the FDSEA milk section of Finistère, says that “the FDSEA and the young farmers of Finistère did not organize this action, that they do not claim it”. But the union leader says he is “not surprised that personal initiatives are emerging, due to the deep despair of farmers”.
The interception of this tank comes as the ultimatum issued to the Sodiaal cooperative by the FDSEA and the JA expires on February 22. They are asking €420 for 1000 liters of milk instead of the current €373, failing which they promise blocking actions.
Milk in Hyères
This Sunday morning the gendarmes of Carhaix, in charge of the investigation, as well as the firefighters of Carhaix and the operator of the restaurant Le Ménéstrel went to the scene.
The large quantities of milk filled the ditch at the end of the car park before flowing into the Hyères, 500 meters upstream from the drinking water pumping station of the Stanger syndicate which serves the municipalities of Carhaix, Plounevézel, Kergloff and Poullaouën.
