Indianapolis Police Shooting: Officer and suspect injured in shooting following vehicle chase, officials say

The policewoman, who received several bullets, was released from a hospital after treatment, said the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The suspect was in critical condition in a hospital after Saturday’s shooting, the IMPD said.

Their names were not immediately disclosed.

The incident began with a report of the first shooting, in which two people were shot dead on the northwest side of the city, IMPD spokesman Genae Cook said.

When the police arrived at the scene of the first shooting at around 3:40 p.m., they found the two people injured. These two were sent to the hospital; one was in critical condition and the other in stable condition on Saturday evening, the IMPD said. The names of those injured were also not disclosed.

Police eventually encountered a suspect in the shooting, Cook said.

The suspect drove off and police continued until the suspect’s car pulled over, Cook said.

When the car pulled up a few miles southeast of the first scene, five police officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect – leaving an officer and the suspect injured, Cook said.

As per standard procedure, the five officers who fired their weapons will be placed on administrative leave while the IMPD conducts an internal investigation, Cook said.
