Indiana family says their 4 and 5-year-olds received Covid vaccines from MISTAKE, after flu vaccine confusion at Walgreens – RT USA News

Family of four in Indiana claims they were mistakenly given Covid-19 vaccines after showing up at a Walgreens store for flu shots – not the first time such confusion has been reported in the pharmacy chain.

Alexandra and Joshua Price of Evansville, Indiana, told local media that they and their two young children were due to get the flu shot at a local Walgreens on October 4, but instead got the flu shot. vaccines against the coronavirus by mistake. While no Covid vaccines are approved for children under 12, the Price family say their children aged 4 and 5 received full doses of the Pfizer vaccine for adults.

Family lawyer Daniel Tuley provided vaccination cards to local media, which he said were given to the Price family after the confusion was discovered. The cards show the names and dates of birth of each family member – including the two children, born in 2016 and 2017 – and indicate that they received the Pfizer formulation at a Walgreens vaccination site.

Prices say they initially left the date believing they had, in fact, received flu shots, but were told by a Walgreens employee that there had been an error shortly after.

“Walgreens called me to tell me there was some confusion, we did not get the flu shot” Alexandra told a local NBC affiliate. “And I’m like, ‘Well, what did we get?’ And it was like we got the Covid-19 vaccine, and instantly I was like, ‘Well, what does this mean for my kids? “”

The worried mother then took the children to a pediatrician, she said, and was told that irregularities had been detected. “[The cardiologist] said our daughter had higher blood pressure than she would like ”, Alexandra said, adding that “Our son suffered from tachycardia”, referring to an abnormally rapid heart rate.

It is not clear whether the symptoms were related to the vaccines, although health officials have raised concerns about the increased risk of heart problems, especially for young recipients of Covid vaccines. However, reports of adverse reactions remain rare.

Responding to repeated requests for comment from the NBC affiliate, Walgreens released a statement on Monday that declined to confirm the Price family’s accusations, while nevertheless stating that it would take such cases. “very seriously.”

“Due to privacy laws, we cannot comment on specific patient events. However, in general such cases are rare and Walgreens takes these matters very seriously ”, the company said, adding “In the event of an error, our first concern is always the well-being of our patients”, and that Walgreens implements “multiple security checks to minimize the risk of human error.”

As of Monday evening, the Price family had not filed a complaint about the incident, and it is still unclear whether they intend to take the case to court despite the involvement of their lawyer.

The apparent confusion would not be the first of its kind. Late last month, a Baltimore family awaiting flu shots were shocked to discover that their 4-year-old daughter had been mistakenly vaccinated against Covid. This error also occurred at a Walgreens store, and like the two Price children, the 4-year-old received the formulation from Pfizer. Fortunately, the little girl did not experience any unwanted symptoms in this case.
