Inauguration of the longest suspension bridge in the world in the Czech Republic


(CNN) — Walking from mountain to mountain, suspended above the ground with only a vast gaping valley below, is not for the faint-hearted.

But thrill seekers – and infrastructure lovers – will flock to the seaside resort of Dolní Morava in the northeast of the Czech Republic to scale the new world’s longest suspended footbridge.
Under construction for two years, the 721-meter-long (2,365-foot) span, aptly named Sky Bridge 721, officially opened on May 13. The walkway promises spectacular views of the cloud-covered Jeseníky Mountains and a , albeit slightly terrifying, experience.

Austrian blogger Victoria Fellner visited Sky Bridge 721 earlier this week as part of a preview event, sharing photos on her Instagram account.
Fellner told CNN Travel that taking her first steps on the bridge made her feel “uncomfortable.”

But that initial fear dissipated as she admired the surrounding scenery.

“I was worried the suspension bridge would shake a lot, but it wasn’t that bad,” Fellner said. “The view is really impressive and you can even see the forest below through the trellis! Luckily I don’t have vertigo.”

Sky Bridge 721, suspended by cables, hangs 95 meters above the valley floor and spans between 1,110 and 1,116 meters above sea level. The bridge is accessible by cable car and the crossing is one-way. Coming out of the walkway on the other side, visitors can take a paved forest path lined with signs detailing Czech history. There is also a corresponding virtual reality phone game.

The walkway claims to be the longest suspended walkway in the new world.

The 1.2 meter wide Sky Bridge is open to children of all ages and sizes, but is not suitable for those in pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Travelers must currently book Sky Bridge 721 tickets in advance on the Dolní Morava website, with adult prices starting at 350 Czech crowns (about $14.60).
Dolní Morava, located on the Czech border with Poland, is a holiday resort that is also home to ski slopes, an alpine rollercoaster said to be the second longest in Europe, a mountaintop restaurant and an attraction called Sky Walk – a curved structure with a wooden walkway and a slide located 1,116 meters above sea level.

The Sky Bridge 721 is about 2.5 hours drive from Prague, the Czech capital.
