It was a very unexpected concert that extended the 2023 edition of the Nuits de Fourvière by one day: the Indochine group invited themselves to the Roman amphitheater on Saturday to offer an intimate 2-hour evening to satisfied fans.
Reading time : 2 min.
For this surprise concert, 4200 tickets left in a few hours. The story begins with a simple phone call. It was the Indochine group itself that made the request to the director of the Nuits de Fourvières. Impossible for Dominique Delorme to say no! The opportunity was too good to extend the festivities.
More accustomed to large halls, the French rock band had not performed at the Nuits de Fourvière for 17 years. For this 2-hour concert in the Roman amphitheater, Nicola Sirkis and his acolytes have never been so close to their audience. “It’s friendly, you feel like you’re with them on stage, it’s so good, they have to do it again every time, thank you, thank you, thank you”, exclaims one fan when another adds “The setting is already magical, they lend themselves completely to it, Nicola played the fire one hundred percent. It was exceptional.” In the crowd, Mélanie even crossed France to see them perform in Lyon. The Breton spent the night outside to be sure of being well placed. “It was a surprise concert announced last week so we had to organize at the last minute, it was not easy“says the young woman. This is the second time she has attended their show this year.
An album in preparation
The Festival, which started on May 31, was to end on July 28 with sounds from Latin America with a concert by artist Lila Downs. In the end, Indochine ended the Nuits de Fourvière in style after an intense 11-date tour that began in June.
In apotheosis of this evening, Nicola Sirkis announced the preparation of a new album, which will be recorded during August. A major surprise for all Indochina fans as well as for the director of Les Nuits de Fourvière. “It’s a bit of a mess, but at the Nuits de Fourvière, we love a mess. It’s from the mess that creativity comes out, that happiness comes out. And then for me, it’s my last season, so ending in receiving this gift from Indochina, it’s really the icing on the cake, more than the icing, it’s a mountain of icing on the cake” enthuses Dominique Delorme. This huge show allowed the Festival des Nuits de Fourvière to cross the bar of 166,000 spectators this year.
