In Camaret-sur-Mer, Hector the lobster has returned to the sea – Camaret-sur-Mer

Captured in the raz de Sein during net fishing, a lobster ended up, despite itself, in the tank of Mickaël Audrain, owner of the fish market “La Pêche bretonne”, located on quai Kléber, in Camaret-sur -Sea. Baptized Hector, the animal weighing more than 5 kg was admired by customers and in particular by Frank, one of the customers. “Mickaël told me that he didn’t think he would sell this crustacean too big. We inquired with Ifremer, the French research institute for the exploitation of the sea. Given its weight, the age of the lobster is estimated at more than 50 years. It’s not nothing ! says Frank.
“Preserving nature and thinking differently”
While talking, the customer and the fishmonger agreed that it would be good for Hector to go to the sea. There is little chance that he will be caught again because he cannot fit in a trap. “We wanted to explain our approach to customers, especially children, by showing that we cannot just be predators. We have a duty to preserve nature and to think differently”, specifies the client.
This is how Hector the lobster took to the sea, this Friday, November 25, 2022. Freed from his rubber bands, he joined his element, at the bottom of the harbour, to the delight of Mila, Naomie, Charlotte and Pauline , who had the chance to squeeze his grip before releasing him.
