A DIET expert has shared five major mistakes you could be making when it comes to mixing foods.
Fortunately, there are ways to avoid mishaps, despite how common some of them are.
Kirti Tewani shared the tips in a TikTok video which has been viewed over 140,000 times.
The first mistake she shares involves the combination of milk and fruit.
She explains why the two elements, commonly found in smoothies, should not be combined.
“Milk takes longer to digest, whereas fruit digests very quickly,” Tewani said.
“Now imagine this combination doing things to your stomach.”
Then Tewani boldly said stop enjoying your hot tea with honey.
“Stop heating your honey,” said the Ayurveda expert.
In the comments, she said it was just an “Ayurvedic principle” she followed for better health.
Another tip from the health guru was to avoid mixing jaggery or tulsi with milk.
“I know a lot of Indians put tulsi or holy basil in their chai with milk – stop doing that,” she said.
In the comments, she clarifies, saying, “Holy basil belongs to the mint family and has a pungent and bitter taste.
“Milk, on the other hand, has very different properties. Having foods of an incompatible nature leads to imbalances in the body.”
She also said that just because a food is bland doesn’t mean it’s better for you.
“Bland food isn’t your digestion’s best friend, so add some spice to your food,” she advised.
And finally, Tewani said you should always be critical of new health trends.
“People do all these trendy things with food without understanding the long-term effects of this ‘health food’ on their bodies,” she said.
“Try to do something more sustainable for your body rather than jumping from trend to trend.
“It doesn’t do your body any good.”
