A TER train linking Saint-Malo to Rennes hit two horses near La Gouesnière around 8:30 a.m. this morning. The 400 passengers had to evacuate the train on foot, supervised by SNCF agents. Fortunately, only 400 meters separated them from La Gouesnière station.
The two dead animals
If no injuries are to be counted among the passengers, the two horses succumbed to the brutality of the accident. “One of the horses passed under the train while the second was thrown onto the other track,” explains the SNCF. “This kind of accident happens very rarely with these animals.”
Traffic stopped for several hours
To allow transport to circulate, road traffic between Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes and La Gouesnière had to be diverted for several hours. The track linking Dol to Saint-Malo was closed for the time to clear the bodies of two animals while the Dol-Rennes line remained open. “It was not easy, the gendarmes like the knacker could not find a solution to move them” specifies the SNCF. The services had to rush five buses to Saint-Malo to transport passengers to Dol to allow them to take their train. Traffic was finally able to resume around 1 p.m. after the two bodies were moved.
