Amir Khan has felt firsthand the power that Canelo Alvarez possesses and advised Terence Crawford to avoid the Mexican.

The undefeated American has made clear his desire to stage an undisputed showdown against the four-weight world champion.

Crawford called the 33-year-old out last month after his stunning knockout win over welterweight rival Errol Spence Jr.

And Canelo is up for the challenge, although he will first have to pass Jermell Charlo when he defends his four super middleweight belts on September 30.

‘Bud’ wants to go up against the winner, even though it would require him to move up three weight classes if Canelo takes the win.

Someone who has some experience of this is British icon Khan, who moved up two weight classes in 2016 to fight Canelo.

But it ultimately ended badly for the Bolton native, as he was stopped in spectacular fashion.

As a result, Khan, who controversially lost to Crawford in 2019, doesn’t think it would be a good idea for his former nemesis to do the same.

He told Fight Hub TV, “I don’t think that should happen.

“Look, I like Crawford (but) I think Canelo is a beast at this weight, honestly.

“I would advise Crawford not to do that.”

But the 40-0 star is confident in his abilities and is looking to etch his name into boxing folklore.

Speaking about the Joe Rogan experience, he said: “This is greatness. This is my era and I’m taking it. Nobody’s going to stop me.

“Now that I’ve switched gears, I know I wanted to fight Jermell, but if he loses to Canelo, I always said that was a big step up.

“It’s a big step forward, but for one person to go up three weight classes from 147 to 168 (lbs) and win and go undisputed…wow. What can they say?
