huffpost – Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn calls for Burmese-style coup in US

An avowed follower of QAnon and avowed criminal, retired Lieutenant-General Michael Flynn has called for a Myanmar-like military coup in America.

“It should happen,” Donald Trump’s former national security adviser said on Sunday in a startling statement at a QAnon conference.

The Burmese military violently took control of the country from its civilian government in late January, arrested democratically elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and high-ranking party members, and killed more than 700 protesters earlier this month. The army justified its action by citing unproven “electoral fraud”.

Flynn presented his grim vision of a military coup and dictatorship in the United States in response to a question from the conference audience.

“I want to know why what happened in Myanmar cannot happen here? An unidentified member of the public asked Flynn, though he pronounced the nation as “Minnimar.”

“No reason,” Flynn replied to wild cries of approval. “It should happen.”

This isn’t the first time Flynn has called for a military takeover of a democratically elected government. He retweeted a message in December following Trump’s election defeat that called on the president to declare martial law and maintain the White House by force.

It’s been a mad rush this week for Flynn, the featured speaker at the four-day QAnon conference, ironically named “For God & Country Patriot Roundup” at the Omni Dallas Hotel.

Conspiracy theorist lawyer Sydney Powell, who is sued for $ 1.3 billion over lies about the Dominion’s voting machines, was another guest speaker.

Earlier in the conference, Flynn insisted he was “not a conspiracy theorist”, but then said, “Trump won! He won! He won the popular vote and he won the Electoral College vote. (He did not do it.)

Flynn resigned after just 22 days as Trump’s national security adviser following reports he lied about his contact with a Russian official. He pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FB about his secret dealings with Russian Ambassador to the United States and suspected spy Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition, a felony. He then fought to withdraw his plea.

Trump pardoned Flynn in November after losing the election.

Trump has granted him an extremely broad reprieve for “all possible offenses” he may have committed in connection with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Kremlin’s interference in the 2016 election.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan angrily dismissed the case against Flynn following the pardon.

“A pardon does not necessarily make an accused person ‘innocent’ of any alleged violation of the law,” Sullivan noted in a 43-page memorandum. “Indeed, the Supreme Court has recognized that the acceptance of a pardon implies an ‘admission’ of guilt. He called the pardon a “political” decision, not a legal one.

Flynn retains his military title and receives a full military pension even as he promotes a military coup against the democratically elected and constitutionally protected government.

Critics on Twitter were dismayed by Flynn’s call for violence against the government.
